2.7L 1968 Porsche 911 Soft Window Targa

OUTLAW

Acquired as a rolling project in 2022, this short wheelbase Soft Window Targa has since been treated to a full build. Power comes from a 2.7 liter flat six with dual PMO carburetors, paired with a Type 901 five speed manual transaxle. The car wears a fresh two stage repaint in Tangerine with blue Porsche graphics, sits on powder coated black 16 inch Fuchs wheels, and carries an interior refreshed with black leather and plaid bucket seats, a MOMO wheel, and Rennline accessories throughout. It's offered on dealer consignment with build records and a clean California title.

Exterior

The bodywork was updated with a fiberglass hood and center fill fuel tank, a fiberglass rear bumper, a 911S style front spoiler, external hood latches, and LED headlights. SOS Customs of Oceanside handled the two stage Tangerine repaint, finished with blue and gray Porsche stripe graphics. The Targa bar was polished and the removable roof panel rebuilt with a new soft window.

Wheels, Suspension and Brakes

Powder coated black 16 inch Fuchs wheels are mounted with Falken Azenis tires, 215/45 up front and 225/50 in the rear. The factory independent front and rear suspension remains in place, and the build added Koni rear shocks, a 23mm brake master cylinder, rebuilt front calipers, and PMB rear brakes.

Interior

Fixed back bucket seats were reupholstered in black leather with plaid inserts, and the rear seats were deleted for a cleaner cabin. New carpets, a leather-covered dash, and custom door panels round out the refresh, along with multi point harnesses, Rennline floor boards and track mats, a 917 style shift knob, and new aluminum dash trim.

Gauges and Instrumentation

A leather wrapped MOMO wheel frames VDO gauges in Rennline trim rings, including an 8k rpm tachometer, 150 mph speedometer, clock, and readouts for fuel, oil level, oil temperature, and oil pressure. The odometer shows 22,000 miles, about 500 of them added by the current owner.

Engine

Installed in 2023, the 2.7 liter flat six runs dual PMO carburetors and a DC10 camshaft, with new valve seals, MSD electronic ignition, headers, a Dansk Sport muffler, and a custom oil cooler with braided lines.

Trunk

The battery now lives in the smuggler's box under a Rennline cover. The front trunk houses the center fill fuel tank, a strut tower brace, and a Rennline blower motor cover.

Drivetrain

A Type 901 five speed manual transaxle, resealed during the build, sends power to the rear wheels. The clutch, speedometer output elbow, and axles were all replaced.
